In the remote village of Mandryn, Tessia serves as assistant to her father, the village Healer. Her mother would rather she found a husband. But her life is about to take a very unexpected turn. The Magician's ApprenticeI really loved this book. I read it earlier this year and loved it, and recently discovered that it was a prequel to an existing series; The Black Magician Trilogy (The Magician's Guild, The Novice, and The High Lord). Well, you can image my excitement!!!! The Magician's Apprentice is a stand-alone book that is just set in the same world (the past version of it though) as the trilogy. The only problem I had with reading the prequel before the pre-existing series was that when I read the trilogy was, I kept on waiting for references to the prequel! Which were never going to happen of course because the prequel was written after the trilogy (which I didn't know til I looked it up...he, he, he). The could be great or not so great depending on your opinion, but because it's a stand alone, it doesn't affect your experience enormously. Well, anyway, on to the review!
Good stuff: -the world (original names, roles, map [limited map] ect.) -The characters (complex and interesting/diverse) -Legnth (good/bad, had time to truly enjoy it) -Good bad countries (good bad people in both) Bad-ish stuff -Variety of settings (she could've been more descriptive; there were many diverse settings, but not much discription of them or the people) [assuming you read BMT she did better describing there] -Minor: she fipped between perspectives a little too often, makes it hard to identify/emerse yourself in one -Legnth (good/bad, had time to truly enjoy it) Rating: Age Recommendation: Conclusion
